Try Improv, Sketch Writing, Standup, and Musical Comedy at the 1 Day Comedy Festival!


Seacoast-Area Instructors Offer Workshops for All Levels During This Full-Day of Skill Building and Community Connection


Kittery, ME – Learn, laugh, and level up your comedy skills at the 1 Day Comedy Festival at the Kittery Community Center on Saturday, May 10!


Instructors from around the Seacoast community will teach a variety of workshops for all levels from 10am-5pm. Try your hand at improv, sketch writing, standup, and musical comedy. 


End the day with a fun open improv jam, and enjoy a showcase performance featuring some of the instructors from the day. 


Choose from the following workshops:


10am-1pm: Creating Characters – Harry Prichett teaches the foundation of creating truthful, authentic characters in this improv workshop. 


10am-1pm: Couch to Mic (Condensed) – Stephanie Lazenby explains how you can transform moments from your life into stand-up in this condensed stand-up comedy workshop. 


12-2pm: Musical Improv Crash Course – Tyler Paterson offers tips and tricks to combine music and comedy in this musical improv workshop. 


12-2pm: The Art of Failing Gloriously (Beginner) – Julia Doucette explores the foundational skill of unlocking your creativity in this beginner-friendly improv workshop. 


1-5pm: From Premise to Final Draft – Ian MacDonald and Chad Moore teach the formats and techniques to help you take an idea to a final sketch in this sketch writing workshop.


1-4pm: Meanwhile: Strong Characters Over Time – Jacqueline Martell applies the “Meanwhile” format to help you tell cohesive stories, build characters, and make smart edits in this improv comedy workshop.


2-5pm: Feel the Beat: Rhythm in Musical Improv – Seth Waters explores rhythm in musical improv in this beginner-friendly musical improv workshop.


2:30-4:30pm: Improv for Teens – Tyler Paterson teaches fundamental improv techniques in this beginner-friendly improv comedy workshop. 


5-6pm: Improv Jam – Members of the public are welcome to join a free, open improv jam led by the Seacoast’s premier improv comedy troupe Stranger Than Fiction. The jam is a great way to meet new people, expand your creativity, get out of your comfort zone, and laugh your socks off. 


7pm: Showcase Performance  Members of the public are invited to enjoy an evening of live comedy featuring performers and instructors from the 1 Day Comedy Festival workshops! Sit back and laugh as individuals showcase their skills in improv, sketch writing, standup, and musical comedy. Cash bar available.
