The Art of Failing Gloriously (Beginner)

This beginner friendly workshop will explore the foundational skill of unlocking your creativity

Description

Many of history's greatest achievements were the result of someone getting something wrong. The chocolate chip cookie was invented by accident. Improvisational comedy takes this idea, that mistakes can be a good thing, and makes it shine. This beginner friendly workshop will explore the foundational skill of unlocking the creativity that lives inside us all by shaking off our need to "get it right". Introductory level exercises will be used to teach not only how to move past the fear of failure, but also how to leverage our “failures” to create improvisational triumphs. The class will culminate in a showcase of improv games that highlight big, glorious, hilarious failures. About your Instructor: Julia Doucett began playing theatre games as a child and decided she never wanted to stop. She believes in the importance of community and thinks that small scale, local theatre is magical. She helps facilitate a weekly improv meetup called the Seacoast Improv Incubator and is also a producer for the sketch comedy group Darwin's Waiting Room. She enjoys teaching improv because she always ends up learning much more than she teaches.
